Sunrise on Cat Point Creek
By Alice French, Director of Education
For the early morning riser, I highly recommend a peaceful paddle on Cat Point Creek. The light is so different, as the grey light gradually is filled with the glorious colors of a sunrise. Listen as the birds and insects are slowly awakening while you quietly paddle to the rising sun. The nice thing about the early paddle is the tide is high and it’s easy to maneuver through the grasses in Menokin Bay.
August sunrises are between 6:00am and 6:30am and the tide is usually high within the hour. This means for a two hour paddle, you can ride the tide as it comes upstream, and after about an hour or so, ride it back as the tide begins to go out.
To arrange a guided paddle in the early hours, contact Alice French at afrench@menokin.org or 804-333-1776 ext. 100. All guided tours are $40 per person.
