Volunteer at Menokin!
Interested in volunteering at Menokin?
Menokin’s mission is to use the historic ruin and built and natural environments to transcend the traditional house museum experience. Menokin is not set in one period of time, but rather encompasses many eras, experiences, and stories.
Menokin is a National Historic Landmark because of Francis Lightfoot Lee. However, its history spans much further back, beginning with the American Indians who first inhabited the land, particularly the Rappahannock Tribe’s ancestral ties, and continuing through English settlement, the contemporaries of Lee and his family, and the people who were enslaved here. This history extends through the subsequent centuries into the present day.
We are looking for community members to help us highlight these important stories to audiences from our region and beyond. Experience Menokin and enjoy the beautiful landscape while engaging with the public, creating memorable moments for visitors as they explore the historic ruin and learn about our unique methods of telling history through the Glass House Project and Descendant Engagement.
If you are enthusiastic about history and enjoy interacting with people, please reach out to us! Volunteering at Menokin is flexible and will accommodate your scheduling needs.
We will have volunteer orientation sessions beginning in February of 2025. You will be notified about specific session dates after applying.
