Menokin COVID-19 Update

Dear Menokin Supporters,

First, I hope you all are taking care of yourselves and your families in this time of uncertainty. Menokin staff, trustees and volunteers are safely working from home and continuing to make Menokin the most engaging preservation project in the country.

Per the Governor’s order, the Menokin Visitors Center will continue to be closed until at least June 10. To support our staff and their families, all staff are continuing to be paid during our closure.

Though these times are hard, I hope you are taking some solace in that we are all in this together. Though many of us are separated, the support of community has become even more important. I keep reading stories of Virginians stepping up for each other in this time of need. Menokin hopes to be there for you too. We hope to support you and your family’s physical and mental health by offering our secluded 500 acres of landscape to you.

Over the next few months, Menokin will be highlighting what our landscape has to offer. We will also highlight other locations and areas that allow you to safely support on your physical and mental health. Look for the hashtag #walkmenokin.

Obviously, keeping our site closed for an extended period has financial ramifications for Menokin. Menokin has taken steps to reduce expenses while keeping our core mission intact. Though we will be moving through some strong financial headwinds this year, we have comfort that we have the community around us. So how can you help?

  1. Use our 500 acres of landscape. Reconnect with nature, find a safe harbor in uncertain times, and engage in physical activity for your health

  2. When at Menokin use the hashtag #walkmenokin for your experiences to spread the word on this hidden gem

  3. Engage with us on our digital platforms

  4. Consider a purchase from our online store

  5. Tell us what amazing things are happening in the community- we want to share those stories in our newsletters!

  6. And of course a donation that allows us to continue to serve our community and grow our project

With that, be safe, stay healthy, and enjoy all that nature has to offer. We look forward to seeing you enjoy Menokin. #Menokin #walkmenokin #mentalhealth

Sincerely,

Sam McKelvey
