Meet the Makers: Brad Hatch

This is a series of Maker Profiles of of special craftspersons that will be showcasing their creative talents at Makers Day 2023. The series is produced by Donovan Wilkerson.

Makers Day 2023 is almost here! In the leadup to the event we will be posting spotlights about some of our featured Makers. Today’s featured Maker is Brad Hatch!

Brad is an eel pot maker, a traditional practice within the Patawomeck Indian Tribe. He currently teaches other tribal citizens about his craft and its history in order to keep it alive within his community.

When it comes to this year’s Makers Day, Brad says he is most excited to meet new people, see the other Makers, and share aspects of his Patawomeck culture and history. He believes it's very important that the Virginia Indian community constantly reminds the public that they exist and that they are all around you. Brad shared with us that “Displaying and educating about traditional crafting practices serves as a great way to highlight our persistence and continued presence on the lands and waters of Tsenacommacah.”

We’re looking forward to seeing Brad and other Makers on Makers Day this June 24 from 11am to 3pm. Check out all the details for Maker Day 2023 here
