Menokin Descendant Collective Spotlight: Alexandria Hunt-Quarles

Our Descendant spotlight for the month of May is on Alexandria Gabriel Hunt-Quarles, fifth great granddaughter of Amanda Beverly Gordon and Stafford Gordon. She is the fourth granddaughter of Daniel West Gordon.

Alexandria is 15 years old and is in the 9th grade at Essex High School, Tappahannock, VA (Essex County) where she maintains a 4.0 GPA.  She is also a Dual Enrolled Student at Rappahannock Community College, Warsaw, VA campus where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. She serves in several positions at school and organizations such as, President of the Freshman Class at Essex High School, Essex High Golf Team, Essex High Marching Band Member, and State Secretary of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia Youth Ministry, just to name a few.

Upon graduating from Essex High School and Rappahannock Community College in 2026, she plans to pursue an MBA and a Law Degree in Corporate Law to enhance her knowledge and skillset in this field.  Her ultimate goal is to become an Investment Banker and specialize in private equity or venture capital and help businesses and non-profits achieve their financial goals while creating value for investors. By combining her passion for finance with her commitment to continuous learning and growth, she aims to build a successful and fulfilling career in the world of Investment Banking.  She one day wants to be the CEO/Founder of her own Global Investment Banking Private Equity Firm.

As a descendant of The Menokin in Warsaw, VA, she is proud to carry on the legacy of her ancestors and their contributions to African Americans and American history. Despite the difficult and often painful history associated with plantation life, her family's heritage has shaped her identity and instilled in her a deep appreciation for the sacrifices and perseverance of those who came before her. Through their resilience, they paved the way for future generations to thrive and succeed, and she is honored to honor their legacy by striving for excellence in all aspects of her life. Being a descendant of Menokin is not just a label, but a reminder of where she came from and the opportunities that lie ahead, and she is grateful for the privilege and responsibility that comes with carrying on this rich and complex history.

Finally, Alexandria lives with her parents in Tappahannock, VA.  She maintains a busy schedule but enjoys her “Me Time”.  She enjoys helping others, singing, golfing, reading, and listening and watching Bloomberg, and trying to solve problems by finding solutions.
