“Still processing a life-altering experience that took place over the weekend. My family assembled for Descendants Day on the very plantation, Menokin, where my ancestors were enslaved.
This event also occurred on the anniversary of my father, Warner Gordon’s passing. I was invited to sit on a panel to share my story and I spoke about the conflict of the horrendous experience my ancestors endured while seeing all of the seeds of their fruit, my family was in attendance.
As a descendant of Stafford Gordon and Amanda Beverly’s seventh child, Sedwick Gordon, it was a tremendous honor to stand on the land they walked, feel their spirit, and assemble with my family for this special day that made my soul smile and filled it with joy.
A very spiritual day that included a libration ceremony at the Remembrance House where we called out the names of our ancestors to Tours at the “Big House,” to spending time with family from around the country, it was a day that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Special thanks to my baby sis, Valerie Benn and cousins Judith Gordon, Karen Beverly, Carolyn Kenzslowe-Beckett, Veronica Williams, Cynthia Hall, and my tablemate, THE Carol Burnett for making the day SO special. It was a glorious Family Reunion!”
