Veronica Williams Sings Spirituals

Veronica Williams singing spirituals at the Menokin Remembrance Structure

Veronica Williams is the third great-granddaughter of Sedwick Gordon, who was the son of Amanda Beverly and Stafford Gordon who were enslaved at Menokin. She is a celebrated vocalist, performing with Austin Symphony Orchestra and the San Antonio Symphony. She is also a piano and voice instructor who enjoys teaching and guiding talented vocalists in her growing and diverse voice studio.

At the beginning of the ceremonies, Veronica sang Negro spirituals for the descendants who attended the event, performing stirring renditions of Lord, How Come Me Here?, Deep River, I Am Seeking for a City. She later sang Oh Freedom after the Memorial Tree Dedication at the end of the ceremonies.
